Update on Swept Away

The bluff house, Swept Away, is being moved now. Last week we had noticed more undercutting close to the house and tonight, we found the patio had finally fallen. It is being moved back 20 feet to allow for a little more time at this location.A house was lost on Smith’s Point due to the recent storms and beach erosion there.

Dirck took that first shot. He held the camera out as far as he could as there isn’t anything left to stand on!

Happy Easter to you, also, Ciel. :-)

Is Smith’s Point still open to vechicles? I haven’t been to Nantucket in about five or so years, the last time I was on the island and rented a Jeep and drove along Madaket Beach from Smith’s Point to Esther’s Island. Is this still possible to do? Or has the erosion on that side of the island made it impossible?

I love all your work, the photographs of the Bluff Erosion are really something.

Thank you so much, Bernice!

Yes, you can still drive from Smith’s Point to Esther Island. I love Smith’s Point – so beautiful and the way the beach is shaped makes it one of our favorite spots to photograph.
